We play a number of roles within the Timmins and surrounding areas!

We are dedicated to animal welfare in all aspects.  We are primarily an adoption center and safe haven for lost and/or abandoned animals.  In that capacity we ensure their overall care and health with our experienced team consisting of Veterinarian, Animal Care Attendants, Veterinary Technicians, Receptionist- Adoption Coordinator, Executive Director and Volunteers.  We also provide Pound Services for the City of Timmins.  All adoptable animals that come into the shelter are put up for adoption and await their forever homes at our facility. Under a contract with the municipality of the City of Timmins, the City’s Pound Services is operated by the TDHS where both the cat and dog by-laws are enforced. Cat and dog licenses are sold and registered on behalf of the City of Timmins at the TDHS, as well as at both Pet Valu locations and Hard Rock Animal Hospital.

Our charitable organization relies on local fundraising, donations and volunteers to support its activities, as we are not government funded. Events and other fundraising initiatives are held throughout the year in order to raise much needed funds, so staff and volunteers can continue to support our overall mission of improving quality of life for all animals in our community and outlying areas. Those wishing to donate may contact the TDHS at 705-264-1816 or via mail or through our online donation platform located on this website.  Your support is so appreciated!

Lastly, we also have a fantastic volunteer base, who help in caring for the animals, cleaning, dog walking, pet socialization, health services, adoption clinics, telephone and administration, fundraising events and more. Those wanting to get involved are asked to contact us or visit the Volunteer section and send us your volunteer application form!
