The Government of Canada enacted the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA), which came into effect for most businesses on January 1, 2004. PIPEDA regulates the collection, use and disclosure of personal information by private sector organizations and others in the course of their commercial activities. The Timmins & District Humane Society has created a policy statement to demonstrate our firm commitment to protect the privacy of our clients, partners and potential Web site visitors.

Privacy Statement: This policy deals only with personal information handled by The Timmins & District Humane Society. Personal information is information about an identifiable individual, excluding business contact information. The Humane Society promises to protect your personal information and use it for its intended propose only. The Timmins & District Humane Society reserves the right to change and periodically update this privacy policy.

Purpose of Collecting Information: With your consent, The Timmins & District Humane Society may collect and use your personal information to:

  • confirm your identity
  • allow us to provide services to you as requested
  • comply with legal requirements
  • investigate cruelty and by-law accusations
  • comply with tax requirements
  • send membership renewal reminders or request assistance

Consent: Personal information is not used for any purpose other than that which you, the client, have consented. Should The Timmins & District Humane Society require personal information for a new purpose, we will contact you to seek consent for the new use. The following actions imply your consent, or the consent of someone you represent, for the use, collection and disclosure of your personal information: -your initials or signature that you have read and understand this Policy; your written or oral consent as indicated on an application; or your consent as provided by a parent, guardian or power of attorney. You may withdraw your consent at any time upon reasonable notice, subject to legal or contractual restrictions, by contacting our Privacy Officer at 264-1816.

Limiting Collection, Use, Disclosure and Retention: Your personal information is kept for only as long as needed to effectively provide services. The Timmins & District Humane Society shall use care and caution when storing and or destroying your personal information to ensure there is no unauthorized access. The Timmins & District Humane Society will NOT sell, lend or give your personal information without your consent unless required by law.

Right To Access: You have a right to access your personal information. Please make your request in writing to our Privacy Officer, stating specifically what information you are seeking. He or she will respond to any requests as soon as possible. There may be a reasonable fee applied for providing access to your personal information.The Timmins & District Humane Society has the right to refuse your access to personal information if your information is protected by law.
