Below are some of the many successful adoptions we have been happy to hear about, so we decided to share them with you. These stories are proof that shelter pets are not "damaged goods" or unadoptable pets, but loving and worthy creatures of a forever home.
If you have adopted one of many wonderful critters and want to share your success story, please send us a picture and story. We'll post it on our website for all to see and appreciate. ,

Hi there,
Just wanted to give you an update on our wonderful dog Darby, who we adopted last year. She is doing real great! Darby was very skittish and submissive when we took her home, she would lay down when you walked up to her, but im happy to say this isn't the case anymore. Darby came full throttle out of her shell, she has the greatest personality. Darby loves to be out doors, her favourite place is out in the bush. This girl loves to run and swim, and we can never get her out of the water. she is a good dog, listens well, is very gentle, and full of love. We greatly appreciate the work that the Timmins Humane Society does, because without them, we wouldn't have this member of our family.

Hello TDHS. In March we were introduced to our most recent family member. From the moment we held him we knew that we had started down the path of adopting a new pet. You know him as Mr. Fuddles. He was on the front page of the Timmins Daily Press & actually made news in other cities such as Toronto & Calgary. We have since renamed him. He is now known as Mr. Emree Sebastian Fuddles the 3rd. ( He goes by Emree). We remember seeing him on the front page & feeling bad about his plight, but he was just another cat who had fallen on bad luck and life went on. It wasn't until we met Emree that we realized that he isn't just another cat. He is a mild tempered & affectionate animal. We already had 3 cats in our home and weren't sure how Emree would fit in.It took a little while for all three to adjust, but he is now a solid part of the family. He can be heard running around the house chasing or being chased by his brother or sisters. He has gained weight back and his fur has filled in so nicely. Not a day goes by that we are not thankful for the opprtunity to have adopted such a loving pet. We also wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for all the hard work you do without often getting praise or thanks! It nice to know that there still exists people who are passionate about life. Timm & David P.S I've attached a before & now picture of Emree only because the transformation is so dramatic. It just proves what a miracle a little love can do. |

Just had to let you know that Oscar is doing fine & has exceeded our expectations. The trip home to Kirkland Lake was good as Oscar sat quietly on the rear seat. Later on I had Rick put him in my lap so that we could bond. Tuesday night when we went to bed, Oscar cuddled up to Rick & that was that! Oscar is home & will be loved & cared for. Today we took him to the vet to buy a new collar & book him in for his shots in September. The receptionist remember us with Brandy & was so happy that we had adopted another dog. She came round the desk to see Oscar & her first comment was 'He's so tiny' - this was in comparison to Brandy. Oscar has been accepted by the neighbourhood & everyone loves him. Last night he started to play with his toys & is settling in nicely. We can't get over how lucky we were to get him.Thank you again for your help & we'll being taking pictures of Oscar & emailing them to you.Best to all the staff! Helen & Rick Gordon |

Dear Timmins Humane Society:Hello to everyone! We wanted to share our story with you and others. Back in September of 2009 we were visitingfamily in Timmins and they happen to volunteer there at the shelter. One thing led to another and next thing we knew my wife and I were adopting a dog! His name is now Dexter (formerly Diesel) and he seems to be fitting in to country life quite well! He gets a lot of TLC and work too! He went through all three levels of obedience training at Petsmart and he learned a few things along with the owners! It's been a lot of work, patience and persistence, but we are making good progress! It was great fun and also a great opportunity to socialize Dexter with other dogs and people, and we continue to bring him to the park for walks on occasion to meet new friends. We are pleased to say that Dexter loves people, kids, other dogs and practically anything that moves! He has such a drive for life and loves to run around the bush and the back roads, and on a hot day he even loves to go for a swim in our pond. He's quite the swimmer too! He also loves belly rubs, playing ball and frisbee and helping out around the yard. A big thank you to all the volunteers and workers at the Timmins Humane Society! Your hard work, many hours of caring and compassion are very much appreciated! Thank you so much for helping so many animals get a second chance at a good life, one that they deserve so much! Alan, Paula, and Dexter |

We Would like to thank the society on the great job you are doing in order to place these loving pets into their new homes with those people who love them and will give them tender loving care for the rest of their life.Chloe is a beautiful gift with all the best qualities anyone could ask for. The training she was given by her first wonderful family was exceptional. We have to thank her family and the Timmins humane society for giving us the chance to adopt her into our home. When friends meet her for the first time they think she's been in our home longer then 7 days. Chloe loves to go for a ride anywhere. With lots of tender loving care she will blossom even more. The loss we had in our home has disappeared and now the joy and laughter has returned. Thank you for our beautiful gift. Doug & Carey P |

Hi to all the staff,Just a quick note to let you all know that Bruin aka Darren has settled into the family perfectly. We could not have asked for a better puppy. He is incredibly friendly, gets along with everyone and every other pet he's been around. He is learning some tricks, and basic obedience. He is due to start school in June. You'll see from the pictures attached he does this funny thing with his lips, it's almost like they are stuck when he lays on his back, he just lays there and smiles We just wanted to let you know we absolutely love him and he will be very well taken care of. He has made him self at home and we know he loves it here, we all fit together perfectly! Thanks so much

Dear Humane Society
Kohl seems to be feeling right at home and we wish to thank you for every thing you've done for us. He's so happy and such a well behaved boy, he very rarely barks, never had an accident or chewed anything he wasn't suppose to. He loves running in the park, exploring the bush, and he's recently discovered how fun water can be! Kohl has also taken up singing also (howling) as I try to practice guitar, he can't seem to help himself from howling along, its so cute. You may check out a clip of him in action on Youtube, simply google 'Kohl singing the Gia blues' and you'll hear the little howler! Pictures of Kohl relaxing are attached. Next time we go out to Sandy Falls maybe we'll drop in to say a quick hello, thanks again for your time and commitment,
Kohl and Sean! |

I adopted Bella when she was 6 weeks old from the Timmins Humane Society. She was a puppy of a litter of 6. Bella has accompanied me through many difficult times including my move to southern Ontario. She is now nearing 5 years old. Bella is truly the nicest, sweetest dog. She makes you laugh with her spunky personality. She listens very well and brings a smile to everyone around her. Even those who are afraid of dogs or are not the biggest fan (including my mother) have fallen in love with her. Bella truly makes a dog lover out of everyone. She has grown to be a big part of my very small family. Thank you for all that you do and continue to provide a safe haven. |

Hello from Chanel (aka Casey)
My name is Casey now and I really like my new home in North Bay. My forever owners are really nice and love me very much. I actually get to have two homes when I am going to be alone at one I get to go to the other so I am not alone very much. Once when I was left alone for a very long day, I got into some of my owners things and had to go so bad I went on the carpet.. But she didnt get mad at me... I think she knew it was too long a day for me and it hasnt happened again since. Nice eh??? They just pet me and take me outside when they come home. I have lots of food and water to drink. They took me to get my stitches out and I got a needle in my rump. It didnt hurt too much but now I can play in the woods and wont get rabies. I get to start on the stuff to keep my heart from getting worms and so I wont get fleas or ticks and stuff really soon. I have three wonderful adults taking care of me and I get to lots of neat stuff. They like to play with me outside and we go for nice long walks so I can get fresh air and sniff and sniff and sniff ... At one of the houses, I get to lie out in the sunshine on the deck all day if I want. But I like to come in and lie on the couch and get snuggled. The one man is really gentle with me and I like to play with him. He doesnt yell at me or hit me nor is he rough with me. He likes to give me treats... I like him. I dont like to travel in the car or truck too much but my people know that so they dont make me go very far. So I dont think I will get to visit you but my people took some pictures of me so you can see how happy I am. Thank you for taking care of me until my forever people found me and took me home. I miss all my friends there but I am starting to make new friends (the black and white cocker spanial came from Timmins to visit me.. we had fun playing). There is a puppy next door and he has alot to learn about how to behave but I tolerate him and maybe I will play with him when he grows up a little. I met a nice Jack Russell across the street yesterday and she was really nice so I think we will be friends.
I hope that my friends at the shelter all find forever homes as nice as mine soon.
Say hi to them for me.
Casey (aka Chanel) |

Betty
She is the oldest of the kittens. She is beautiful, talkative, and very good "hunter". She brings us toys, socks, fluffy sleepers and we praise her a lot. She likes that, it makes her proud! When we are in the bedroom, she will bring the "prey" to me, same ritual, same route. She comes from the hallway, under the bed, on my side, makes the announcement, leaves the prey; I pet her and praise her. One time I didn't pay attention to her present, and I just petted her, so she started meowing loudly till I found the reason of her unhappiness. She was praised double for that, to make up for my unacceptable behaviour. She is the one that likes people the most. She comes to you to say hello from time to time, and just the idea of being petted soon makes her purr. She is not so attached to cats, or dogs. She won't avoid them, but she won't look for their company, either. Probably she would have preferred a single cat/ pet house, although when we got them she acted like a mother to the brothers, washing them, and taking care of them. All of them had kennel flu, she wasn't too bad, but the others were very sick. She looked very cute as a "mommy", because she was just 2 weeks or so older than the other ones.

BooBoo
She is Benny's sister. She is a very small cat, but she believes she is at least the size of a tiger! She is very independent and very confident. She has a solution to every situation; she even will stand up on her back legs to compensate the size, when needed. Very agile, you find her in unusual places. She likes to wash everybody, so she spends most of the time grooming whoever wants to stay (even dogs, if she finds them in a sleepy mood), or whoever wasn't quick enough to escape. She likes Benny very much and he gets to be properly washed most of the time. She talks when you look at her, and she likes to be petted (although she spends lots of time cleaning herself after that). She watches movies (it seems that we share that passion), so most of her "free time" she stands in the front of the
TV listening, watching or catching colourful shapes. She attentively looks at the window when our dogs play outside, probably thinking she has to wash them again! I like everything about her: her attitude, her personality, but mostly I like her eyes; they are huge, beautiful, and mysterious. They seem to be inviting you to an amazing adventure: DISCOVERING CATS' WORLD! |

Benny BC
He is one of the brothers. We named him "Benny - The Border Collie" because of his markings. We have 2 border collies and he has the same color scheme: asymmetrical face, black and white fur, even the tail ends with a white spot. He is cute, very calm and loving. He likes the smell of tooth paste, so we brush our teeth with a purring audience. His eyes are amazing, you feel peaceful and relaxed when he looks at you. He doesn't look for trouble, but if trouble starts, he won't back up. He likes everybody (pets or humans), but he likes our dogs in a special way. He sleeps with them (at least he tries), he gives them lots of head-butts and nose-kisses, and he worships them! When they do sits, downs, heels or retrieve things, he looks at them with contentment, with pride! He likes to spend a lot of time at the window, looking out and taking sun baths.

We adopted Mr. Lee from the THS about 10 months ago, so this is his first Christmas with us. Christmas in our house wouldn't be complete without a visit to see Santa at Pet Valu in Hollinger Court. As you will see from the photo, Santa sure had his hands full this year as all three cats were photographed together. Here's our favourite photo of our visit - Left to Right Daylight, Twilight and Mr. Lee.

Hello everyone!!!
Just thought that I would write to all of you to give an update on Ava, seeing as how she made such an impact on your lives as much as she's made one on ours. Since adopting Ava, the atmosphere in our home has been completely changed. She brings so much love and joy to us and the people around us...especially Wink, the kitten my dad adopted. She's been absolutely wonderful and has very easily made our home hers as well. Our bed is now her bed, she knows exactly where her treats are in the kitchen and how to ask us when she wants one. We're so thankful for having her as part of our lives, as part of our family and for being the ones to give her the " Forever Home" she so lovingly deserves.
Till the next time,
Julie, Thomas & Ava xo |

Hi, my name is Tara and I adopted Winston on December 17th 2007. I was living in Smooth Rock Falls at the time but returned to Toronto in August of 2008. Winston is doing very well and is a very happy loving incredible cat and I could not imagine my life without him. My daughter was 9 months at the time of the adoption and is now 21/2 years old, no matter what she does to him he just lays there and takes it, he's like one of her dolls. He shares his home with our other cat, 2 hermit crabs and a fish, which he loves to sit and watch swim around. I thank you very much for him and I hope that many others become as lucky as him(and us of course) and find their 4-ever home.

Hullo to the wonderful staff of the THS,Autumn continues to be a super snuggly dog. She does this really
funny thing of almost standing on her head when you scratch or tickle her. She's shameless about tickling!
She LOVES to run in the woods. We get her out for long jaunts of hiking or biking for her health, our health, and for the longevity of our shoes (yummmm) and front hall carpets.
Thanks again for the great work you do.The MacFarlane Family

I just wanted to give you an update on a dog I adopted from there 2 years ago. I adopted Baby 2 years ago after she had been at the shelter for many months. Baby and I just wanted to thank everyone working at your shelter for all of the hard work you do and all of the love and hope you give to the animals.
Thanks again for all you do,

Hello everyone we are doing so well here with Cooper (Cocoa) we changed his name and he responds to it well. We took him to a friend's house and he got to play with 5 other dogs. He was so well behaved and also shared his food .We went outside for a bit and the dogs were in fenced back yard and I think cooper was scared we were going to leave him there so he dug a hole under the fence so he can get to us, lol. Cooper loves to play with his ball and chew on his dental bone and other toys. He also likes car rides and long walks. Cooper has found his forever home. Cooper will never go hungry, or be tied up outside, or locked up in a kennel. I'm a stay home mom so he won't be home alone to often. Cooper will be seeing a vet on regular basis and also be groomed .Thank you for giving us the chance to adopt this little love. |

We adopted Mr. Lee a couple of months ago and we absolutely love his great personality and lovely voice. He loves to wrestle with his feline brother Daylite - they even lay down together for an afternoon nap. We have started getting Mr. Lee used to walking on a leash and going for car rides so he can travel with us to North Bay in August for our holidays. He is an absolute delight and we can't imagine being without him. Here are a couple of pictures of Mr. Lee enjoying his 'forever home'. Thank you for taking such good care of him until he came home with us.

Friday the 13 th was our lucky day when Boomer became a stray. We recently lost our dog to puppy heaven and found the house empty without Bailey. When we arrived at the rescue center to look at another dog, only to find out it was just adopted, luck had it that we asked about another recent stray and it was love at first sight, we knew we had to have Boomer. There is nothing that a good grooming and a nice soft couch to make you feel at home. Boomer fit right in and adjusted right from day one. My mother just loves him. She calls him her Boomky. He has a lot of energy, loves to play, loves the outdoors, has a good appetite and loves his carrots and apples. We can't thank Lynn and all the staff at Timmins Humane Society enough for letting us adopt Boomer.

Hello,
I thought I would send some pictures of Hayley (formerly Katrina). We adopted her from the humane society in October 2007. She was painfully shy and did not trust many people. Today she has come out of her shell and blossomed into a sweet loving dog. The pictures are of Hayley at her favourite place in the world. The cottage where her two best friends (who were also adopted) live!
Thank you so much for Hayley! She brightens our lives every day!

Hello staff and volunteers,
On February 2 nd , 2009 we adopted 3 cats, Livy, Wally and Buddy (Knight) from the Humane Society. Livy is still a little nervous when there are strange noises, however she loves her loving. We call her Lovy Livy. She insists on sitting on your shoulder instead of your lap. While she's up there, she gives you lots of kisses. Believe it or not she is an instigator. Thanks to her Wally gets his exercise because she makes him chase her up and down three stories. She sleeps at Gilles' feet all night, but wakes up in the morning on top of me. Sometimes Livy and Wally cuddle together to sleep on the bed until he walks away. When we chose Wally I felt sorry for him because he is so big and I thought nobody would want him. He brings us his toys and makes us fetch. I tried to teach him how to fetch but he wouldn't go for it so we gave in. He'll bring us his toys from floor to floor. He play fights with us, meets everybody at the door and scratches the treat cupboard several times a day. Wally keeps my feet warm at night and he snores really loud. Wally is the Dad since he cleans Livy and Buddy. Then there's Buddy, the bad cat. I felt sorry for him because he was quiet and so little compared to all the other cats in his room. He fooled us. On his second day with us he broke a flower vase at 2am. He's been in the dishwasher, stuck in the closet, stuck in the cupboard drawer, sleeping in the kitchen sink, on the stove, on the fridge, on the dining room table, all 4 paws in the toilet and up on the pantry shelves while glass jars fell and broke on the floor. I could go on for two more paragraphs. He is very lovable and affectionate. When he wants attention he does this summersault to land on his back and then I rub his belly. I think he's gained a little since he's been with us. He sleeps on mine or Gilles pillow. We love our cats as if they have been with us for years. Three totally different personalities to entertain and love us unconditionally. Thank you for taking great care of them for us. We can't stop talking about our cats to everybody and recommend that everyone adopt a cat or three from the Humane Society
Sincerely,Gilles and Terrie

I've attached a picture of our three THS cats with their “brothers” From left to right in the picture, David is holding Bear, Jeremy is holding Spooky (formerly AnnaLisa) and Zak is holding the ever loveable Ziggy. These cats are a real joy and addition to our family. We would never think of getting a cat anywhere but the THS. |

Hi, We adopted Marabelle, now known as Jasie, back in February. She was a lab/retriever tan puppy. I thought you would be interested in seeing a couple recent pictures of her. She is doing well and fits into our family perfectly. She is very smart and she can do an array of tricks. We look forward to many more years with her. Thank you and enjoy the pictures!

We are very happy with our new puppy. She is as sweet and quiet as they can get. Yesterday night was the first night she didn't pee in the house so we were very proud of her. She knows how to sit on command since I am working with her every afternoon. This little girl ended up in a very loving home, we adore her! Here are some pictures of Liberty in her new home. We did change her name from Liberty to Mika since her name was a little difficult for us to pronounce since we are a french speaking family. She's used to her new name and seems to like it... hehe! Thank you very much for letting welcome this girl into our home!

Mason (a.k.a Steel) is doing great. Our little daily routine consists of morning cuddles, treats, lay in front of the door so I can't leave in the morning to get to work….then from what my landlord tells me Emily and Mason have an interesting day of running from one end to the other of my apartment ALL day! (lol) Of course once I get home they are the little angels I have come to love so very much. Thank you for the precious gift you have given me .

This is Oreo (previously known as Zeke) surveying his kingdom. He is still full of energy and love! He also has plenty of attitude (the good kind) and he is so gentle. We love him because he is so cute and has a kind personality. We could never replace him, as he is like a brother to us. We would like to thank you for helping us find Oreo, and we promise that we'll continue to take good care of him. This summer we are bringing him to the vet for his annual check up and vaccinations to keep him healthy.
Yours truly,

Hi there, I just thought you might want an update on Feldman and Tiger. They're doing great. Tiger adapted to his new home right away, he loves to cuddle and sleep on the bed with us at night. His most favourite thing to do is drink out of the faucet in the tub. Feldman howled the whole way from Timmins to Cochrane and as soon as he got to his new home he hid. It took about 4-5 days for him to adjust but now he is the king of the house. His favourite thing is making Tiger clean him. |

Hi, we'd like to thank-you for the wonderful experience when we adopted Elmo in December. He made himself right at home. The girls love him and can't seem to get enough of him! He's very gentle, laid back and no trouble at all! Our only little problem is....Elmo has brutal smelly gas! We're hoping once he is used to his diet that the gas will die down! We love him anyway and we just thought you'd enjoy these photos! Our daughters new brother....my husband always wanted a boy!!LOL We will continue to recommend people to go and see for themselves the great animals waiting to be adopted.

In January in the dead of winter, the Timmins Humane Society team went well beyond the call of duty to send our puppy Shima- a.k.a. Madison- all the way to Toronto via Air Canada animal cargo.I want to tell you that Shima's doing so well. She is such a sweet, sweet girl. Very bright and tons of energy. She enjoys lots of walks on the beach and in the ravine trails by our house. She's SUPER social and loves all other animals. Despite the husky in her, she hasn't yet developed the roaming bug (fingers crossed she won't). We're pretty sure the other half of her is Border Collie- she looks a lot like a Border, but also has some of the behaviours/personality traits.
In short, she's become a wonderful member of our family. I've attached a few pics to share with you.
Thanks again for all the amazing work that you do!

Just a short update on Lexi (yes, we kept her name). She is a great dog, although we wondered if maybe you drugged her a little before we picked her up. She was so calm for the first 3 days, but has definitely come out of her shell. She is very smart and sits quickly when asked. She can shake a hand. She travels very well in the vehicle and now walks well on a leash. Lexi will begin school shortly just to brush up on a couple of little issues. She is pretty well house trained now, and will go to the door when she wants out. As long as she goes out regularily, there are no mistakes. She sleeps all night on the bed with us without any mistakes thru the night and enjoys toast and peanut butter with Brian in the morning. Thank you very much for letting us adopt her and we will take very good care of her.

About a year ago we adopted Cooper (also known as Frederick) from the Timmins Humane Society. He had been found wandering in the bush and was in rough shape. We fell in love with him immediately and he has been an important part of our family ever since. He adapted well to his new surroundings and instantly took to his new name. He's doing incredibly well and could very well be the most spoiled little man in the world. Cooper is loved and adored by absolutely everyone he meets! Thanks for all your hard work!
