Last February we added a new member to our family, Nikka, a husky/collie mix.  She was the only dog that didn’t come up to the front of the kennel as we walked by.  She was very shy, scared and didn’t like loud voices.  We felt bad for her and decided we would take her out for a walk. As we were walking she somehow got off leash.  Oh No! We panicked thinking she was going to run away from us. We called her name and she came right back to us. We thought wow she is only a pup and she listens.

We were delighted and excited when we were approved to be her adoptive parents.  Being 7 months pregnant at the time with our first child, Nikka was blessed with all the attention… until little Jenna was born.  Nikka was very distraught and uneasy the morning I went into labour knowing there was something wrong with her mommy.  She started to act out while I was in the hospital. We came home to half eaten baseboards and one heck of a mess. Nikka’s world had changed. She was no longer the centre of attention. People would come over to see the new baby and Nikka would fight soo hard to get the attention first. She was always screaming ” hey guys what about me? I’m cute too!” Over the past year, Nikka and Jenna have become the best of friends. In most pictures of Jenna you will find her buddy Nikka right beside to her.  It has been wonderful to watch them develop such an amazing bond.

Nikka is a very high energy dog yet when it comes to her buddy Jenna she is very gentle and calm.  She loves running, hunting, swimming and most of all ATTENTION. She also loves to socialize.  She likes to sneaks out of the house to go visit her dog friends and people friends knowing she is going to be in big trouble. We have our ups and downs but we love her to pieces.

Thank you to the Timmins and District Humane Society for all your hard work, care and compassion and for letting us take Nikka into our home.

Attached are a few photos of Nikka and her buddy.

Enjoy,

Jess, Ty, Jenna and Nikka
